How to change the order of options in the main menu
Learn how to easily reorganize your website's navigation structure using the drag-and-drop method.
The main navigation menu is the roadmap for your website. WordPress lets you change the order of the options (which page appears first, second, etc.) or create submenus using simple mouse gestures, without affecting the content of the pages themselves.
Go to Menu Management
To access your menu structure:
- Log in to the WordPress admin panel (Dashboard).
- From the left-hand menu, go to the option Appearance and then click on Menus.
- At the top of the page, make sure that in the field “Select a menu to edit” Your main menu is selected (usually called Main Menu ή Header Menu) and press Select.

Reorganization Using Drag & Drop
On the right side of the screen, below the section Menu Structure, you'll see all the items in your menu displayed as vertical boxes:
- The order in which they are listed from top to bottom corresponds to the order in which they appear on the site from left to right.
- Click and hold down the left mouse button on the item you want to move.
- Drag the box **up or down** to its new position and release it.
Proper alignment is key! If a box is slightly shifted **to the right** (indented) below another, WordPress recognizes it as Sub-item and it will display it as a dropdown. If you want to restore it as a main/standalone option in the menu, simply drag it slightly **to the left** so that it aligns perfectly with the other main boxes.

Saving Changes
Changes you make using drag & drop aren't automatically applied to the site, allowing you to experiment without worry:
- Once you are completely satisfied with the new series, click the blue button Save Menu located in the lower right (or upper right) corner of the screen.
- Visit your website and refresh the page to see the new layout live.
WordPress allows you to nest one sub-element inside another sub-element (third level of indentation). **Avoid doing this.** Menus that open “to the right” within other menus (sub-sub-menus) are extremely difficult to use on mobile phones and confuse users. Keep your structure clean by using **only one level of submenus** for the best possible navigation.

Do you want to increase conversions with a “Button” in the menu?;
Simply changing the order helps, but converting the last menu option (e.g., “Contact” or “Book an Appointment”) into a **prominent, colorful call-to-action (CTA) button** immediately catches the visitor’s eye. At Skynetix, we can customize your header by adding special code to highlight your most important page, increasing phone calls and quote requests right from the very first days!
