How to change links into buttons or text
Learn how to properly direct your visitors by converting links into buttons, text, or by linking to PDF files.
Call-to-action buttons and links within the text are the tools that turn a casual visitor into a customer. With Elementor, managing and changing the destinations of these links is a very simple process.
Changing a Link to a Button (Button Widget)
If you want to change where a button leads (for example, the “Contact” button):
- Open the page in Elementor and click on the button you want to edit.
- In the left panel, on the tab Content, locate the field Link.
- Delete the old link and paste the new URL (e.g.,.
https://mysite.gr/contact/).
If you want a button to be tapped on a mobile device and immediately initiate a call or open an email, you don’t need to include a website link. In the “Link” field, type:
• For phone: tel:2101234567 (no spaces)
• For email: mailto:[email protected]

Add or Change a Link Within Text
If you want to turn a specific word or phrase in a text into a link:
- Click on the text box (Text Editor) and go to the left panel.
- Using your mouse, select (check) the word or phrase you want to turn into a link.
- In the toolbar above the text, click the icon with the chain (Add/edit link).
- In the small box that appears, paste the link and click the blue button with the circular arrow (Apply).

Link a Button to a PDF File
If you want clicking the button to open a PDF file (e.g., a price list):
- From the WordPress main menu, go to Multimedia (Media) -> Library and upload your PDF file.
- Click on the uploaded PDF and then click the button on the right Copy link to clipboard (Copy URL to clipboard).
- Go back to Elementor, click on your button, and paste this link in the field Link.
When a link leads to a external website (e.g., on your Facebook) or on a PDF file, you should always set it to open in a new tab so that the user doesn't lose track of your site. Next to the “Link” field, click the icon with the gear (Link Options) and be sure to check the box Open in a new window.
