How to Create a Discount Coupon in WooCommerce
Learn step-by-step how to issue discount codes, set usage restrictions, and schedule their expiration dates.
Discount coupons are a great way to encourage your visitors to make a purchase. WooCommerce features a very powerful built-in system that allows you to create codes offering a fixed discount in euros, a percentage discount, or even free shipping.
Where Are the Coupons?
From the left-hand side menu in WordPress, go to Marketing and click on Coupons. Then, press the button Add coupon at the top of the screen.
Note: In older versions of WooCommerce, this option was located directly within the WooCommerce -> Coupons menu.

Naming and Type of Discount
In the first field where it says Coupon Code, type the word the customer will type (e.g.,. WELCOME10 ή SUMMER2026). Avoid spaces and strange characters.
In the context of Coupon data located directly below, configure the following on the tab General:
- Percentage discount: Removes a percentage (e.g., 10%) from the cart.
- Fixed cart discount: It deducts a fixed amount in euros (e.g., a €5 discount).
10 for 10% or 10€, respectively). If you want the coupon to waive shipping costs rather than deduct money (e.g., as a gesture of goodwill for a delay), check the box Allow free shipping. For this to work, make sure you have enabled the “Free Shipping” method in your WooCommerce settings and have selected “Use a coupon” as a condition.

Restrictions on Use (Protect Your Profits)
To keep track of the discounts, click on the second tab: Usage restriction. Here you can set up safeguards:
- Minimum spend: The coupon will be activated only if the customer spends more than a certain amount (e.g., a €10 discount only for purchases over €50).
- For individual use only: Check this box if you do NOT want the customer to combine this coupon with other coupons in the same order.
- Exclude sale items: Very important! If you check this box, the coupon will not apply to products that are already on sale or discounted in your e-shop.
- Product Categories: You can restrict the coupon so that it applies only to a specific category (e.g.,. Accessories) or exclude another one.
Usage Limits per Customer
Click on the third tab: Usage Limits. Here you can check how many times the code can be used in total:
- Usage limit per coupon: If you enter, for example,.
100, the coupon will expire once the first 100 customers in total have used it on the site. - Usage limit per user: Write
1so that every customer (based on their email address or account) can use the coupon only once.
Although WooCommerce usually recognizes coupon codes regardless of how the customer types them, it is best practice to create your coupons using **ALL CAPS** (e.g., `OFFER20`). This prevents confusion caused by Greek accents or hidden characters when customers copy and paste the code from their cell phones.

Once you have completed all the settings, press the blue button Publish in the right-hand column. Your coupon is active and ready to use!
Do you want discounts to be applied automatically without discount codes?;
Entering coupon codes can sometimes confuse mobile users, causing them to abandon their shopping cart. At Skynetix, we can upgrade your e-shop with **Dynamic Pricing / Automatic Cart Discounts** systems. This way, discounts will be applied automatically (e.g., “Buy 3, Pay for 2” or “10% discount applied to your cart if your total exceeds €80”) without the customer having to remember or enter a code!
