How to Apply Discounts to Products in WooCommerce

Learn how to set discounted prices for your products, as well as how to schedule promotions that start and end automatically.

Promotions and discounts are the most powerful tools for increasing sales in your online store. WooCommerce lets you change a product’s price to a discounted one in just a few seconds, and it even automatically displays the old price crossed out (e.g.,. 29.00€ 19.00€).

1

Product Identification

Log in to the WordPress admin panel. From the left-hand menu, click on Products. In the list that appears, find the product you want to put on sale and click on its name or the button Edit.

Entering a Discounted Price

Scroll down until you find the box Product Data and make sure you're on the tab General.

  • Regular Price: This is the product's original price (e.g., 50).
  • Sale Price: Here, enter the new, lower price that the customer will pay (e.g., 35).

Discount Scheduling (Optional)

If you don’t want the discount to start immediately, or if you want it to end automatically (e.g., as soon as the sales or Black Friday are over), WooCommerce has a “hidden” feature.

Next to the discount price field, click the link Schedule. Two new date fields will appear:

From: The date on which the price will automatically drop to the sale price.
To: The date the offer expires. Once that day passes, the product will automatically return to its regular price—without you having to do anything!
💡 A Smart Marketing Move

Use the Schedule feature to prepare your campaigns days in advance. You can set up your Christmas discounts as early as November. At midnight on the designated day, the e-shop will update the prices on its own, so you won’t have to lose any sleep.

Storage and Control

After entering the price (and the dates, if you wish), scroll all the way to the top of the right-hand column and click the button Update.

⚠️ Be careful with caching plugins!

If you click “Update,” visit the site on your phone, and still see the old price, don't panic. Your e-shop is likely using a cache system. Click “Clear Cache” in the top bar of WordPress so that the new prices appear immediately for everyone.

All set! Your product now has the “Sale” label and is ready to attract buyers.
