WooCommerce SEO: How to Write Effective Titles for Google

Learn how to optimize the title (SEO Title) and description (Meta Description) for each product to attract more buyers from Google.

When a user searches for a product on Google, the first thing they see is a blue title followed by a short description. If your product title simply says “Code 4022” or “Black T-shirt,” the chances of someone finding you are slim. Let’s see how to format these titles correctly and easily.

1

Where is the Product SEO Box located?

Open a product for editing. Scroll all the way down the page, past the product description and details. There you will find the special SEO plugin panel that Skynetix has installed for you (usually the Yoast SEO or the RankMath).

The Formula for the Perfect Title (SEO Title)

By default, WooCommerce uses the title you assigned to the product. In the SEO Box, however, you can change it specifically for Google, making it much more appealing. In the field SEO Title, delete the automatic purple/blue tags and write a title using the following structure:

Product Name + Brand + Main Feature (e.g., Color or Material) + E-shop Name

Example: Instead of “Sneakers,” write:
Nike Air Zoom Running Shoes - Black | MyEshop

Note the progress bar: There is a horizontal line below the field. It must remain green. If it turns red, it means the title is too long and Google will cut it off.

3

Writing the Meta Description

The meta description is the two-line text that appears below the title on Google. It doesn't directly affect rankings, but it encourages users to click.

In the field Meta Description, write a text of up to 160 characters (until the bar turns green) that includes:

  • A brief and clear description of the product.
  • Keywords a customer might search for (e.g., “women’s leather sandals”).
  • A call to action such as: “Check it out—free shipping on orders over €50 and immediate delivery throughout Greece!”.
💡 Smart Move: Use emojis to stand out

Google now displays emojis in search results. By adding one or two distinctive emojis to your meta description (e.g., a checkmark ✅, a star ⭐ or a truck 🚚) instantly catches the user’s eye, dramatically increasing clicks (CTR) to your e-shop!

The “Focus Keyword”

In the field Focus Keyphrase, enter the main phrase you want the product to appear for (e.g. Nike Air Zoom Black). The plugin will automatically analyze the entire product page and display a list of red or green circles, providing you with tips (e.g., whether you’ve used the keyword enough times in the text or if the main image has the correct filename).

⚠️ Don't stuff your content with keywords!

Avoid repeating the same keyword over and over in the title or description (e.g., “Shoes, athletic shoes, Nike shoes, running shoes”). Google is extremely smart; it will view this as an attempt to deceive (spam) and will “penalize” your page by ranking it very low in search results. Always write naturally, with the human reader in mind, not the search engine.

Once you're done, don't forget to go to the top right and click Update. Google will see your changes the next time it crawls your site (usually within a few days).

All set! Now your products have everything they need to start climbing the Google search results.
