How to Change Shipping Costs in WooCommerce

A simple guide to updating your shipping rates, changing your flat-rate fees, or configuring free shipping for your online store.

Proper management of shipping costs is critical to the profitability of your e-shop. Whether the courier you work with has changed its pricing or you want to offer free shipping, the process of making changes through WooCommerce is centralized and applies immediately to all products.

1

Go to Mail Settings

From the left-hand side menu in the WordPress admin panel, locate the option WooCommerce and click on Settings. On the horizontal menu bar that appears at the top, click the tab Shipping.

2

Select Shipping Zone

Here you will see the “Shipping Zones” that have been created for your e-shop (e.g.,. Greece, Cyprus ή Local Pickup). Hover your mouse over the name of the region you want to edit (usually “Greece”) and click on the Edit.

3

Cost Change in the Fixed Price

Inside the zone, you'll find a board with the Shipping Methods. Find the method Flat Rate, which represents the standard courier fees, and click on Edit. A small pop-up window will open.

4

Updating the “Cost” Field”

In the field Cost, delete the old price and enter the new one (for example, if your shipping costs are €3.50, just type 3.50). Next, press the blue button Save changes inside the pop-up.

⚠️ Be Aware of VAT on Transportation Costs!

In the “Tax Status” field, check to see if the Taxable ή None. If you set the cost to €3.00 and the system is configured as “Taxable,” WooCommerce will automatically add +24% VAT at checkout, and the customer will see a total of €3.72. If you want the final price to be exactly €3.00, make sure you know whether the price you enter includes tax or not, depending on your site’s general settings.

5

Free Shipping Settings (If Available)

If you offer free shipping on orders over a certain amount (e.g., for purchases over €50), click on Edit under the method Free Shipping. In the field Minimum order amount, update the limit and save.

💡 Smart Move: Don't forget to click "Save"!

After you close the pop-up window, be sure to click the large button Save Changes located at the bottom of the Shipping Zones homepage. If you leave the page without clicking it, your changes will be lost.

All set! The new shipping rates have been implemented. Add a test item to your cart to confirm that the checkout calculates the new total correctly.

Would you like advanced shipping rules (e.g., based on weight or remote areas)?;

When your needs grow, WooCommerce’s default settings are no longer enough. At Skynetix, we handle the configuration of advanced custom plugins for calculating shipping costs based on product weight and volume, automatically identifying hard-to-reach areas, and integrating (via Webhooks/API) your e-shop with the systems of ACS, General Post Office, Speedex, and others.
