How to Use AI to Create Ads (Smart Tips)
Learn how to leverage Artificial Intelligence to write ad copy that sells and create “smart” visuals using the right prompts and analogies.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has radically changed the landscape of digital advertising. Now, tools like ChatGPT, Midjourney, and Canva AI allow any business to set up campaigns in a fraction of the time. The secret, however, isn’t just using AI, but knowing the the right tricks to achieve professional results.
AI Tips for Visual Artists: The Secret of the 4:5 Ratio for Instagram
When you create images with AI (e.g., on Midjourney), the biggest mistake is to leave them in the default square aspect ratio (1:1). The Instagram feed favors vertical images because they take up more of the user’s mobile screen, reducing the likelihood that they’ll scroll past the ad.
At the end of each image feed prompt, add the corresponding dimension parameter.
• For Midjourney / DALL-E: Add it --ar 4:5 (Portrait Feed) or --ar 9:16 (for Stories/Reels).
• If you are using the ChatGPT (DALL-E 3), just type the following in the text: “Create the image in a 4:5 aspect ratio suitable for Instagram sponsored posts.”

Copywriting Using the “Role-Play” Method”
If you ask ChatGPT «Write an ad for shoes», you’ll end up with a boring, vague text full of clichés. For AI to write copy that has a high click-through rate (CTR), you need to give it a very specific role and a marketing framework.

AI “Tricks” for Realistic Product Photos
When creating images for e-commerce ads, avoid words such as “hyperrealistic” ή “photorealistic” because they often confuse AI and produce artificial, fake results. Instead, use terminology from real photography:
"studio lighting", "natural morning light" ή "soft shadows" to add depth."Shot with a 50mm lens at f/1.8" ή "shallow depth of field" It will automatically blur the background (bokeh effect), making your product stand out as if it came from a professional photo shoot.Advertising platforms are becoming increasingly strict when it comes to AI-generated content. If you create an image or video that shows a photorealistic face or a misleading scenario, Meta and Google now require you to check the specific box “Altered or digital content” when setting up the ad. If you neglect this and the system detects AI-generated content that looks real, your ad may be rejected or, in the worst case, your advertising account may be suspended.
